A-10 Thunderbolt II, Warthog
The A-10C Thunderbolt II is the first aircraft in the Air Force developed specifically for close air support of ground operations. They are simple, effective, and survivable twin-engine jet aircraft capable of taking on light marine attack aircraft as well as all ground targets, including tanks and other armored vehicles.
The aircraft can withstand direct impacts from armor-piercing and high explosive projectiles of up to 23mm in diameter. Internal and external foam safeguard their self-sealing fuel cells. Manual flight-control systems supplement their redundant hydraulic flight-control systems. When hydraulic power is gone, pilots can still fly and land.
